Christmas in July Coat Drive

NOTE: This blog post is about the 2016 coat drive! For info about 2017’s event, please click here.

TWO MEN AND A TRUCK Nashville is hosting a coat drive to benefit Park Avenue Elementary School!

Happy Summer, everyone!  We’re getting ready to celebrate the season change with our very first Christmas in July party!  We’re extra excited about this event because the party benefits Nashville children in need.

You’re Invited!

We hope you’ll join us as we collect new (or gently-used) coats and sweaters for local children in need!

When:  Saturday, July 23 from 10 am-2 pm

Where:  Thriftsmart, at 4890 Nolensville Road

Everyone who brings a coat or sweater donation will receive a $5 gift card from Thriftsmart and a $50 coupon for our moving services!  Plus we’ll be making fun kid-friendly DIY crafts out of moving boxes and have plenty of drawings, contests, and giveaways.

And if your family loves listening to Mix 92.9 on the radio, you’ll want to stop by during the 11 o’clock hour to hang out with the Mix 92.9 Street Team!  They’ll bring plenty of goodies to add to the party.

Who will receive these coats?

Nashville’s TWO MEN AND A TRUCK works with the PENCIL Foundation to support the lower income students of Park Avenue Elementary School.  Many of these students’ families are unable to afford new coats when their children grow bigger each winter, so we decided to host a coat drive to benefit Park Avenue’s kids!  Every coat and sweater collected at our Christmas in July party will either be given to a Park Avenue student this winter, or will be donated to  local non-profits benefiting the homeless (if the coat/sweater will not fit a child).

Help us spread the word!

You can RSVP for this event and invite your friends on Facebook by clicking here!

DIY Seasonal Wreath from Moving Boxes

TWO MEN AND A TRUCK Nashville teaches how to make a DIY seasonal wreath decoration out of used moving boxes.

For all the parents out there who are struggling to find fun, stimulating activities to occupy your kids ALL DAY LONG while they’re out of school this summer…  We feel your pain!  We love finding ways to use stuff we already have lying around the house to keep the kiddos entertained between trips to the pool and library.

Most recently, we came up with this super-simple DIY craft that is not only great for children, but also helps clean up any old moving boxes you have at home.  These easy wreaths can also be adjusted to fit every season!  So you can keep making this craft over and over again and come up with something different every time.

Here are the supplies you’ll need:

  • Supplies to make TWO MEN AND A TRUCK Nashville's DIY wreath decorationCardboard moving boxes
  • Seasonal craft paper, matching the time of year you’re making your wreath
  • Ribbon
  • Scissors
  • Scrapbooking or photo glue
  • Hole puncher
  • Craft blade, like an exact-o knife (for parental use only!)

Step One:  Cut out your wreath’s shape from your moving boxes.

You can use a pencil to trace the edge of two different circular containers onto your cardboard to make concentric circles, or you can just wing it!  The great thing about this craft is that your cardboard shape doesn’t have to form a perfect circle because you’ll be covering it up anyway.  Use your craft blade to cut the wreath shape out of your cardboard.

Step Two:  Tie your ribbon as your “hook-hanger.”

Using your hole punch, cut a tiny hole in the part of your wreath that will serve as the “top.”  Then tie a piece of your ribbon through the hole to serve as the hanging loop that will hang on your door’s hook.  Though this step can be the last step of your craft if you so choose, doing it at the beginning can help you decide which way you want to place and rotate each piece of craft paper as you glue them to the wreath.

Leaf-shaped craft paper cut-outsStep Three:  Cut your craft paper into seasonal shapes.

We actually made both a summer and a Christmas-themed wreath when we tried out this craft!  We just cut circles of different sizes from our summer-themed craft paper, but we got a little more creative for our Christmas wreath.  These are the two types of leaf shapes we cut from our winter holiday paper.

Step Four:  Use your scrapbooking/photo glue to beautify your wreath!

This is the most fun part of the craft, and there’s no wrong way to go about gluing down your shapes!  Just be sure to use special scrapbooking or photo glue instead of regular school-style glue sticks.  Regular glue can sometimes fail to have the strength required to hold thick craft paper.

If you want to get really creative, add some stickers, glitter glue, or sequins to your creation!  And then check out our other DIY crafts, like our Plinko game or our cardboard castle!

Top 5 Reasons to Work for TWO MEN AND A TRUCK

Top 5 reasons to work at TWO MEN AND A TRUCK Nashville

Whether you’re looking for a summer gig or a full-time career, we have great work opportunities at TWO MEN AND A TRUCK Nashville!  We could tell you all about our fun atmosphere, paycheck bonuses, and get-out-of-the-office opportunities, but we wanted to tell you the top five reasons our employees love working here.

1. BIG paychecks!

TWO MEN AND A TRUCK Nashville Movers and Drivers can earn tips from happy customersFirst of all, our starting pay for Movers and Drivers is between $11-14/hour, depending on your experience and certifications.  All of our Sales Representatives make $12/hour, plus a commission on every single sale they make.  If that doesn’t sound awesome enough, we also pay all of our staff for their training because all three of these positions are entry-level.  Our Movers and Drivers are trained more extensively than any other movers in the industry, so they generally pocket extra tips from their impressed customers!  On top of that, all of our employees are offered a bonus for referring their friends to work for us.  And every month, Movers and Drivers can make another bonus for keeping high customer satisfaction scores!

2. Upward mobility opportunities.

Most people don’t realize that TWO MEN AND A TRUCK doesn’t just offer jobs…  We work hard to promote internally every time we need another manager.  In fact, every manager at our location started in an entry level position and worked his or her way up!

3. A safe, drug-free workplace.

While many moving companies claim to be drug-free, we actually perform monthly drug tests with all of our employees (including office staff!) to ensure a clean workforce.  We also have a zero-tolerance policy for any type of violent crime, so you can feel very safe with your team members.

Vince from TWO MEN AND A TRUCK Nashville takes about 4,900 steps during one moving job.4. You’re paid to work out!

Vince, one of our Quality Control Specialists, likes to brag about how he lost 70 pounds during his first summer working for us as a Driver.  We asked him to track his steps during one day of moving, and he typically takes about 4,900 steps during each moving job!  Check out this screenshot from his smartphone’s step counting app showing the details of his “workout” during a move on June 8 this year.

5. Fun atmosphere!

TWO MEN AND A TRUCK Nashville's Ugly Christmas Sweater contest! We celebrate birthdays, dress up for Halloween, and keep the TV on in the Sales Office.  And if you’re one of our Movers or Drivers, you’ll get to work outdoors in various Nashville neighborhoods every single day.  Plus we reward our top-performing Movers and Drivers by scheduling them on interstate moves, so you have the opportunity to travel the country for work.  We keep friendly competitions going in the moving and sales sides of the business, and you’ll never work on a Sunday or major holiday.

Ready to apply?  Send us an email at TMTNashville@gmail.com, call or text us at 615-248-6288, or stop by our office on 4801 Alabama Avenue to fill out an application in person!  You can also call or text us with any questions you have about working on our team!

Happy Father’s Day to Our Resident Dad!

Stephen and WyattAs Father’s Day quickly approaches, we wanted to highlight one of the awesome dads in our business!  Meet Stephen, one of our Quality Control Specialists out in the field.  Stephen has been with TWO MEN AND A TRUCK Nashville for three years, and he actually started off working for us as a Mover.  Now he helps ensure top-quality service to our customers by training new movers, performing spot checks with our crews, and leading our moving teams on the job.

Stephen is the father to his adorable 16 month old son, Wyatt, and he has another baby on the way!  Stephen says his favorite part about having a son is getting home from work.  “Wyatt gets super excited when he hears the keys unlocking the front door,” Stephen explains.  He also loves learning so much by being a father.  Stephen feels like he’s become a more patient person since having a son, and he knows how to look at life from a new perspective.  “When Wyatt is throwing a temper tantrum, I have to remind myself that I’m trying to teach him all of these life lessons that I’ve already known for years.”

xbox controllerLike every child, Wyatt enjoys copying his dad’s actions.  “His favorite toy is a play baby laptop that he uses to pretend he’s typing.”  Stephen tells us that when he plays with the laptop, Wyatt always has to hand it to his dad to have Stephen turn it on for him.  But when it comes to the TV, that’s another story!  Stephen and his wife have no idea how, but “somehow Wyatt has learned to use the Xbox remote control to secretly watch Sonic the Hedgehog cartoons.”

Even though Father’s Day is coming up this weekend, Stephen says his family probably won’t do anything big to celebrate.  His wife’s birthday is so close to Father’s Day that they always end up celebrating her instead!  “But I feel like every day is Father’s Day for me because of how much joy I get from being Wyatt’s dad,” Stephen says.

When his son was born, Stephen felt happy, nervous, and worried about being a good dad.  But after these first sixteen months, he has some advice for new dads: “Do a lot of research, and Google!”

Happy Father’s Day, Stephen!
