Garrett and Chelsea: A story of shared love at TWO MEN AND A TRUCK®

Everyone knows the saying “love what you do”, but for Garrett Newhouse and Chelsea McDaniel, they don’t only love what they do at TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® but love who they do it with. Garrett, the Lansing franchise operations coordinator, and Chelsea, a customer service representative at the Lansing franchise, recently got engaged. They were kind enough to share some of their story with us.

Q:  When did you two first meet?

Garrett: I think about 3 years ago.

Chelsea: We met three years ago this summer, while I was working at Biggby, and he was working at Jet’s Pizza located in the same plaza.

Q: What was your first impression of each other?

Garrett: I thought she was cute, and I wanted to get to know her better.

Chelsea: My first impression was he was cute and quiet. However, I was a little embarrassed, because I woke up late that day, was in a rush, and had no time to get ready. Our mutual friends kept sending him back down to get coffee so he could talk to me.

Q: Describe your first date.

Garrett: We walked around MSU’s campus and talked (she mainly talked) and got to know each other better. Afterwards we went bowling and it was a little awkward at first, but we ended up having a lot of fun together.

Chelsea: While we walked around campus getting to know each other, Garrett discovered I had never tried Tropical Smoothie. Since this is one of his favorites, he insisted I try one. When I was getting ready for our date I didn’t know what he had planned, so I wore flip flops. When we got to the bowling alley he tried so hard to buy me socks, but I wouldn’t let him. He drove me home at the end of the night, and we sat in his car talking for hours.

Q: What does an average day of work look like for you?

Garrett: I work on the moving schedule to make sure the week runs as smoothly as possible. If the movers do run into any issues on their move, I see what I can do to help them fix those. I also manage our warehouse and storage area.
Chelsea: I answer the phones, run through estimates, and book moves for any potential customers. I also work with customers that come into the franchise and answer any questions they may have.

Q: What made you want to work at TWO MEN AND A TRUCK®?

Garrett: It was something different than any previous job I have had, and I thought it would be fun. I knew it was a company that offered opportunities for growth in my career and personal skills.

Chelsea: Well, Garrett worked here first, and once I started to express interest in working for the company, he started to tell me about all the opportunities and benefits TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® provides its employees. After hearing those things I knew TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® would be a great fit for me.

Q: How do you balance your work life and personal life?

Garrett: We don’t really get to interact much throughout the day. When we are home, we try to keep the focus on our relationship, rather than talking about things that went on at work.

Chelsea: We hardly ever see each other at work. We are both busy with our different roles, so the only time we see each other is on our lunch break. Although we don’t get a lot of interaction during the day, it’s nice working the same hours so we are home at the same time. When we go home we try to set a little time aside in the evening to talk about work, and after that, we focus on us.

Q: Describe your engagement.

Garrett: Every time I went out of state I got Chelsea a gift from where I had traveled. I had the engagement ring for a while, and just didn’t know how or when to propose. So, when I came back from a long-distance move in Tennessee, I just couldn’t wait any longer. I hid the ring in a mug I had gotten her during my trip. Before we left for our dinner date, I presented her with the mug. I knelt down in front of Chelsea, told her that our time together had been the best of my life, that I loved her, and asked if she would spend the rest of her life with me.

Chelsea: Garrett had just gotten back from Tennessee and we were going out to dinner at Olive Garden. I had asked where my souvenir was, and he said I’d get it before dinner. I was sitting on the couch waiting for him to be ready, when he came out with a coffee mug. He knelt down in front of me, and I was still so oblivious. He had the ring box in the mug, but there was a plastic bag covering it, so I didn’t think anything of it. I grabbed the mug and started to get up to leave. That’s when Garrett removed the bag and revealed the ring. He told me how much he loved me, and how he wanted to spend his life with me. I immediately started crying, and said yes!

Q: When did you know you wanted to propose?

Garrett: I had a feeling she was the one, right away. Once I realized we were both serious, I knew I wanted to spend the rest of my life with her, because I couldn’t begin to imagine life without her.

Q: Were you surprised when he proposed?

Chelsea: I was more than surprised. We had talked about it many times before, but I was not expecting it at all. I was speechless.

Q: When are you getting married/what are your wedding plans?

Both: Our wedding date is April 29, 2017. We will be getting married in Ada, MI at the Egypt Valley Country Club. This is where we will hold both our ceremony and reception.

Congratulations, Garrett and Chelsea! TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® wishes you happiness in your future together!
