Here at TWO MEN AND A TRUCK®, we have interns working at our corporate office and various franchise locations across the country to gain experience in their fields of study. These interns bring creativity and additional knowledge to our teams, just like Jack Mishra has been doing in Durham, N.C.! Jack is originally from Lansing, Mich., so he knows the area of our Home Office well and has been familiar with TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® from a young age!
What school do you go to and what are you studying?
“I’m entering my sophomore year at University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill! My major is management and society, which is an interdisciplinary of business and economics, and some psychology as well. My parents are both business professors, so I’ve always been interested in the world of business. So far, I’ve taken economics and marketing classes, but I’m looking forward to the rest of what I’ll be studying as well. Growing up, I’ve always been involved in business, such as buying and reselling lacrosse equipment, and much more.”
What interested you in working for TWO MEN AND A TRUCK®?
“At first it was a family connection to TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® that interested me, but during my first year at UNC, I saw a TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® booth. I walked up and mentioned my local connection with TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® International and how my family has used the service for all the times we’d ever moved. From there, I thought about the summer ahead and began discussing a possible internship. Knowing the history of the company and what it stands for, I couldn’t have looked for a better place to grow as an intern.”
What do you love about your internship?
“The main thing I love about my internship is the sense of family that has been fostered here. I was quite nervous showing up the first day, but I know now that I had no reason to be. Everyone has been so willing to teach me what they do and their mindset behind what they do. I have not just been shown new skills, but also taught how to use them.”
Tell us some interesting things about working at a franchise location for TWO MEN AND A TRUCK®.
“A franchise location has the benefits of feeling like a small business, but has the connections and foundation that Home Office provides. The company’s core values are prevalent, but don’t feel forced whatsoever. Additionally, Franchisees Les and Brooke Wilson also own the Raleigh franchise and two other franchises down in Atlanta. So the work I’ve done has not only created results for Durham, but three other locations as well.”
What are some of the main projects you’re working on?
“I work all over the office. I worked a lot in the marketing department at first, but am primarily involved in operations, and have spent time working for human resources and sales as well. I’ve went to on-site move estimates, helped run booths at events, played in a golf tournament on the franchise’s behalf, and created marketing and social media projects. I have created a manual for the franchise’s tablet program as well. I also do pretty much whatever operations needs of me on a daily basis, and help with customer relations. I’ve worked all around the franchise, which has been part of the fun of it all.”
If you could speak another language, what would it be?
“One language I would want to speak would be something like Latin, because a lot of other languages are rooted in it, which would make learning them easier. It would be interesting to speak a language that few other people in the world speak.”
What’s your favorite activity outside of work?
“My favorite activity outside of work is either exercising or making my own music. I play lacrosse, and do my best to play at least a few times a week. I also lift six times a week, and try to get sprints in multiple times a week as well. I also make my own electronic dance music in my free time.”
What do you recommend to an incoming intern?
“I recommend being open about what you do during your internship. Coming into mine, I made it known I wanted to work in as many areas as I could, and doing so has very much paid off. I’ve received great experience in multiple areas of the franchise, and it has allowed me to further determine what I want to do in the future.”
Jack has had a great opportunity experiencing not just one, but several departments within TWO MEN AND A TRUCK®! He’s been a key asset, and we wish him well in his future endeavors!
