TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® means business when it comes to our core purpose of “moving people forward”. One way we do this is through the Mary Ellen’s Moving People Forward® Scholarship program. Founded in 2014, this program provides a unique opportunity to allow committed managers the chance to become a franchisee. The scholarship program navigates candidates through intensive training and an all-encompassing education of the TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® franchise system. Candidates are required to complete online courses, webinars, and put their all into various assignments. The year-long scholarship program comes to a close with a visit to our corporate Home Office in Lansing, Mich., where candidates interview and present their own version of a successful business plan to the TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® executive team. The deserving winner is then awarded $50,000 to go toward the launch their franchise, and a place amongst some of the most competitive and passionate franchisees in the world.
TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® has never shied away from providing substantial advancement opportunities to employees. One in three of their franchise owners started as employees, and more than 75% of managers started elsewhere within the company. Why? Because big growth means big opportunity. Randi Bloodworth – the first scholarship winner – began her journey at TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® as a customer service representative at the Tampa, Fla., franchise. With a good work ethic and sense of reliability, Randi quickly moved up to become the office manager, and in 2014, took on the scholarship program. Today, Randi’s franchise boasts excellent reviews and ratings with an endless amount of compliments directed toward the frontline team members, which one could argue is a direct reflection of her as a franchisee.
“For me, the biggest takeaway of the scholarship program was the training,” said Bloodworth when asked about how the scholarship program contributed to her success. “There were so many things I thought I knew until I entered the program. I was able to teach employees at my locations and others about things I learned and ideas and processes I have carried away.”
In more recent news, 2015 scholarship participant Jason Washburn successfully completed the second round of Mary Ellen’s Moving People Forward® Scholarship program and was awarded $50,000 toward his own franchise. Jason began his career with TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® as a mover at the St. Louis, Mo., location, but did not stay on the frontlines long. Jason progressed through the ranks and established a trust with his franchisee, allowing him to become the general manager and take on the daily operations of multiple units. In business, this trust is priceless, and Jason was ready to take on the scholarship program. With no shortage of motivation and drive, he got his chance.
Mary Ellen’s Moving People Forward® Scholarship program is just one example of how TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® is working to make a difference. It is not just a difference within the business world, but amongst people and how we treat each other. The idea is not just about how much revenue can be brought in – it is a much larger picture that. TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® has truly become a leader in the way we think about careers. It’s about moving people forward and allowing someone the opportunity to become the very best they can be. Good people make good business, and we are just scratching the surface of this company’s true potential.
