Why I Love Working for TWO MEN AND A TRUCK®

Written by Emily Sham

The best places to work aren’t always the tech companies and start-ups with nifty perks like slushy machines and napping pods. Sometimes, the best places to work are just down the road, with a focus on community and unlimited opportunities for all team members. In the moving business, one company sets itself apart, and here are a few reasons why I love working for TWO MEN AND A TRUCK®:

Opportunities for growth, career advancement, and movement within the system
One of the best things about working for TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® is that the opportunities are endless within the franchise system. Movers can become mangers, and even one day open their own franchise. I started out as the marketing manager for the Jackson, Miss., franchise and slowly began taking on more of a sales role within the company. I was soon promoted to the sales and marketing manager and oversaw our two customer service representatives, one in home consultant, and one assistant marketer. This all happened within a two-year span of being with the company. Moving towards my third anniversary with TWO MEN AND A TRUCK®, we opened a second location in North, Miss., in which I temporarily moved and helped with the startup of that franchise. I focused on the sales and marketing, while still overseeing the Jackson office. Within three years I have advanced in my career and had the opportunity to help with a startup franchise, all while gaining awesome relationships all over the state of Mississippi.

emily5Opportunities to give back to the community
My absolute favorite part about working for TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® is being able to give back to the community. Our franchises are constantly working with local non-profits in our areas and participate in Movers for Meals during the fall and  Movers for Moms® during the spring. At our Jackson franchise we are heavily involved in the American Cancer Society Tennis Classic, which is held in memory of our franchisee, Jeff Taylor’s, wife Becky. I have been the event chair for the tennis tournament since it started in 2014. We have had support from TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® franchises from all over, Home Office, as well as the founding family. This support for our local American Cancer Society really shows how great our system works together to give back. The chance to give back while I wear the TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® name makes my job not only exciting, but rewarding on a personal level.

Making a difference during a stressful time in life

When I was interviewing for the marketing position at TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® three years ago, Mr. Jeff, our franchisee, told me moving was one of the top three stressors in a person’s life, along with a death and marriage. When the phone rings you never know the customer’s walk of life, or what they are about to unveil to you. I strive to focus on each customer with individual detail  to make them feel as if they are the most important person I have talked to all day. We have an “employee recognition wall” hanging up in our dispatch area, and there is a particular customer who we moved in February 2015 who wrote a very detailed email thanking everyone involved with his move.

In his email he wrote, “I decided to call the listed contact number from the website and had the pleasure of speaking with Emily. Emily explained the services TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® could provide, asked me questions about my particular needs, and offered suggestions to help make the move less painful. She was professional, engaging, courteous, and extremely helpful. I felt that she really wanted my business, and that she really wanted to help me out. She quoted me a reasonable price and told me she would also email me that quote within about 30 minutes. After hanging up and waiting for about half an hour, she delivered the quote on time. The quote was detailed and conveyed exactly the information we had previously discussed….

Larry, Eric, Emily, and Jonathan need to be recognized for their spectacular efforts to make my move seamless and pain free. TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® was well represented by this fine team of professionals, and they should each receive recognition for doing an excellent job. From start to finish, each of these folks did their best and provided a high level of customer service and attention to detail. Taken as a whole, this team reflected positively on the business and your brand. Seriously, this is how a business should be operated!”

Customers who appreciate what TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® can offer them during one of the most stressful times in their lives is what makes this job so fulfilling.

Being part of a larger system

I was two weeks into my new job with TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® when I was sent to Home Office for Frontline Annual Meeting. I remember wanting to learn as much as I could about the history, the brand, and the basics of what the company was all about. It didn’t take long to realize the 100+ other TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® representatives were also there doing the same thing, with the same passion. I was able to meet Home Office employees and other marketers, customer service representatives, and managers in the system who I still have relationships with today. Working within such a large system allows you expand your reach much further than you could imagine. I also have been blessed to be able to attend a marketing training session at Home Office, as well as two Annual Meetings since starting with the company. To see how far the TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® system as a whole has grown in the three year span I have been with the company makes me really excited to see what the future holds.

emily3There is always something new happening
TWO MEN AND A TRUCK®’s middle name should be “change.”  There is never a day that is the same as the last, but this is one of the best things about working here. I will admit I have personally laughed and cried to a customer, my boss, and a mover/driver before. I take a lot of pride in my job and sometimes put a little too much “passion”, as Mr. Jeff calls it, into whatever I am doing. The constant changes and the constant unknowns is what keeps me on my toes and makes the job exciting.

Lastly, my favorite thing about working at TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® is the relationships I have made throughout the years. From local business owners, to other employees, I have grown so much as an individual and I owe that all to TWO MEN AND A TRUCK®.  The staff in Jackson, Miss., and North, Miss., are incredible and they really make working here fun. When you walk into our offices people always say they feel like we are having too much fun, and that is because we are. We have some of the best employees  who love what they do and make where we work a fun place. I also have to give TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® credit for introducing me to my husband! If I wouldn’t have accepted the marketing position three years ago I wouldn’t have met my husband and I wouldn’t be awaiting the arrival of our little baby. I cannot wait to introduce little Taylor Marie Sham to the TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® system and how much this company means to her daddy and me.

  1. Hi there! This blog post couldn’t be written much better! Looking through this article reminds me of my previous roommate! He always kept preaching about this. I will forward this post to him. Fairly certain he will have a very good read. I appreciate you for sharing!
