TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® … Full of Interns! Meet Tyler Trierweiler and Tony DiCicco!

Written by Katie Peterson

At TWO MEN AND A TRUCK®’s Home Office this summer, 19 interns have joined us to complete designated projects and learn all they can about TWO MEN AND A TRUCK®. While most interns complete an internship one summer during their collegiate studies, a few of our interns have the chance to come back for a second summer to gain even more experience. TWO MEN AND A TRUCK®’s internship program is just one of the ways We Move People Forward®, for careers as well as our customers. Let’s meet two of our returning interns, Tony and Tyler!

Tyler and Tony pic+

Tony is going into his fifth year at Michigan Technological University in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula studying computer networking and system administration. Here at TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® he is working in the IT department doing desktop support for his second summer. Welcome back, Tony!

Tell me a little about yourself.

Tony picI enjoy hanging out with friends and going to movies. I could watch pretty much any kind of movie – except for the occasional romantic comedy, since you can usually predict what happens. My favorite food is seafood or any kind of stir fry. I have one older sister and we are pretty close; my family usually has dinner together on Sundays.

What was your biggest take away from your internship last year?

This place always challenges you; you are never just sitting around. No matter what you’re doing, there is always something new to learn. Even though I have the same position as I did last year, I am learning something every day.

What was it about TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® that made you want to come back?

The culture here was so friendly and open and the people are very genuine, it made me want to come back this summer.

What advice would you give the new interns?

Get to know everyone. It helps you become more involved with the company and makes it easier to help people when they need it. Especially in my position with IT support, it helps to know who you are assisting.

What was your favorite memory from last year?

I would say the intern baseball outing. It was fun to hang out with all the interns at the same time because we are usually split up into our separate departments.

Tony will be an excellent fit into our culture once again this summer thanks to his knowledge of TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® and his willingness to take on new challenges!

Tyler Trierweiler

Tyler will be a junior at Central Michigan University in Mount Pleasant, Mich., this coming fall, where he is majoring in marketing and logistics. Last summer he worked for us in the operations department, and this summer he is working in logistics. Welcome back, Tyler!

Tell me a little about yourself.

Tyler picI’m a really big people person. I like hanging out with my friends and family. We are all really into sports. My parents and I like to go golfing together and I enjoy watching my little sister play high school softball. I’m passionate about finding new adventures and trying new things with a good attitude about life.

What was your biggest take away from your internship last year?

Learning what an office job is and the connections you build with your coworkers. Coming back this year I am looking forward to continuing to build those connections.

Are there any parts about being a returning intern that have given you a unique perspective?

It has actually been really cool to see the Value Flex long-distance moving service progress from last summer when it was in its early stages to its launch this summer. I have loved being involved with that process.

What made you want to come back for another summer?

It is a great program. You build connections everywhere, even outside Home Office. They make you feel like an actual employee and the experiences have been a great start to my career. I am also looking forward to learning more of the ins and outs of the company.

What advice would you give the new interns?

I would say make the most out of your internship, and go out and meet new people instead of sitting at your desk. Don’t be afraid of asking for help and trying new things.

What was your favorite memory from last year?

Going to South Bend, Ind., on a franchise start-up trip was a lot of fun. It was a long day, but it ended up being really fun. All the interns were great last year too, we got pretty close.

Tyler’s experience with TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® and its people makes him the perfect addition to the logistics department and the 2016 intern group. We can’t wait to see the great things you do this summer, Tyler!

TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® … Full of Interns! Meet Nick Busman and Jordan Newton

Written by Katie Peterson

At TWO MEN AND A TRUCK®’s home office this summer, 19 new interns are excited to take on projects and develop new skills. TWO MEN AND A TRUCK®’s internship program is just one of the ways we move people forward, personally and professionally! Today we’re meeting two tech-savvy interns who attend Central Michigan University together … and are also roommates! Let’s meet Nick Busman and Jordan Newton! Nick and Jordan pic+

Nick Busman

Nick will be a junior this fall studying graphic design at Central Michigan University. He is working as one of our IT interns this summer on the SharePoint team. Welcome to TWO MEN AND A TRUCK®, Nick!

Tell me a little about yourself

Nick pic+I like to read about the world and educate myself on current events. I like listening to NPR and mostly just being informed about the politics and economics of the United States. My favorite food is fried shrimp as long as it’s breaded. If I could eat shrimp fried like KFC chicken that would be great.

When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?

An astronaut. Some of the first books I was introduced to were about space because that was about the time we had a lot of spacecraft go up. If I could go to space and be my own pilot, I would be thrilled for the experience.

What does a typical day at TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® look like for you?

I’m writing code and designing web pages every day (or rather redesigning pages).

What do you think will be your biggest challenge this summer while working here?

Not stepping on anyone’s toes. I’m working with the internal website the system uses and making big changes. If someone doesn’t like something I do, I have to figure out why. My goal is to limit confusion, even with so many changes taking place.

What’s something you want to be known for?

Bringing about positive change. A lot of people are afraid of change and I want to be the person to help bring them to change and help them do things in the best possible way. I want to be the person to reach over and tell them that change is okay.

Jordan Newton

Jordan is in his fifth year at Central Michigan University studying information technology and working on the infrastructure team here at Home Office. Welcome to TWO MEN AND A TRUCK®, Jordan!

Tell me a little about yourself

Jordan pic+When I’m not doing things on my computer I like to hang out with my friends. I also like to sing a lot. My fraternity frequently visits retirement homes and other places to sing to people who need it most. We sing a cappella most of the time and have songbooks with anything from barbershop quartets to musicals. We even sang at Comerica Park.

When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?

I wanted to be a police officer. When I was little I saw police officers as protectors and I aspired to protect my family and the people I loved.

What has been your favorite part about working at TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® so far?

It’s pretty relaxed. There are a lot of places you can go to get the corporate feel of an office but you don’t get that here. TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® President Randy Shacka is right in saying the culture here is big.

Is this your first internship? How did you learn about it?

Yes, it is my first. I heard about it through Nick, my roommate.

What does a typical day at TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® look like for you?

There aren’t really typical days in IT. Some days you’re really busy resolving issues that arise, other days there is time to be innovative. I am usually up and about helping people fix computers. Which is kind of like building with Legos. Once you see the pieces, you pretty much know where everything goes.

What’s something you want to be known for?

I really take pride in being someone who can help others realize their potential and their ability to make a difference.

What do you think will be your biggest challenge this summer while working here?

I think learning everyone’s faces and names probably. I will have the opportunity to though because I will be up out of my seat solving problems pretty often and meeting people from other areas in the office.

These two are an exciting addition to our TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® team, and we can’t wait to see what they will accomplish this summer! TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® … full of interns! Meet Sabrina Spagnuolo

Written by Katie Peterson

This summer TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® is the host of 19 interns ready to tackle new projects and possibilities. Our internship program is just one of the many ways we move people forward, not only personally for our customers, but professionally for our team members across the country. Each intern will focus on a project plan within their department, learn about different aspects of the franchise system, and complete a wrap-up presentation at the conclusion of the internship for the executive team. Meet our Customer Relationship Center intern, Sabrina Spagnuolo!

Sabrina is heading into her sophomore year at Hope College in Holland, Mich. She is studying business and plans on deciding her concentration soon. Welcome to TWO MEN AND A TRUCK®, Sabrina!

Sabrina picTell me a little about yourself.

I have one older sister who is engaged. She is quite a bit older than I am, but we both like to play tennis and golf when we are together. I really enjoy baking and cooking with my mom, especially sweets like cookies and cupcakes. We have one cat at home named Thomasina who we named after my great aunt. I really enjoy hanging out with my family and friends. My friends and I like to watch One Tree Hill together. I love the beach, too; anything I can do there I really enjoy.

What is your favorite part about working at TWO MEN AND A TRUCK®?

I really like the environment and how everyone is so nice and helpful here if you have any questions. It’s a very similar atmosphere to Hope College where I attend school. I really like the CRC, too. It’s great to see how they are involved in selling the product and on the front lines.

What’s something you want to be known for?

I want to be known for never giving up and being nice to people. I hope people think of me as being kind and doing my best at everything I do.

What do you think will be/has been your biggest challenge this summer while working here?

I think learning the statistics and acronyms is pretty hard. I am sure there will be upcoming challenges, but nothing has been too difficult so far.

Sabrina pic+What does a typical day at TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® look like for you?

I usually pull statistics for the CRC when they need them. I assist the managers with voicemails they need help with from customers. Hopefully in the future when I’ve gone through enough training, I’m able to take customer calls.

Who is your celebrity crush?

I would say Ryan Reynolds. I like his hair and his eyes.

Sabrina’s positive outlook and hard work ethic is a positive addition to our TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® staff this summer. Glad to have you, Sabrina!

TWO MEN AND A TRUCK®’s 2016 summer internship program has begun – meet the team!

Interns 2016

Written by Chelsea Leser

Warmer weather brings vacations and suntans, and also marks the start of many summer internships. At TWO MEN AND A TRUCK®’s Home Office in Lansing, Mich., 19 new interns have received their name badges and computers, and are excited to tackle new projects. This year’s internship program includes students attending schools as close as East Lansing-based Michigan State University and as far as New Orleans-based Tulane University. Each intern will focus on a project plan within each department ranging from marketing to IT, learn about different aspects of the franchise system, and complete a wrap-up presentation at the conclusion of the internship. Interns also have mentorship opportunities and chances to participate in exciting events throughout the summer at the office, as well as in the community.

TWO MEN AND A TRUCK®’s internship program is just one of many ways we move people forward, not only for customers, but for careers. TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® President Randy Shacka began as a marketing intern 14 years ago! Randy has an engineering degree, and had no idea that his internship would be the start of a great and rewarding career.

To kick off our summer intern blog series, meet Corinne DeVries! Corinne is in her second summer as a TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® intern. Last summer, she supported the marketing team, and this summer she will support human resources. A Michigan State University graduate and avid rower, Corinne is already making an excellent addition to the team.

Corinne-DeVriesWhat interests you about human resources?

Throughout my college career people would ask what I wanted to do with my communications degree. There are so many things that I liked to do and so many things you can do with a communications degree that I was having trouble deciding. So, last year I decided to try out the marketing side of communications, here at TWO MEN AND A TRUCK®. As much as I enjoyed marketing, I couldn’t see myself doing it every day as my career. My advisor thought that my personality would be a perfect fit for HR. I thought I’d give it a try and the atmosphere at TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® created such a great experience for me last summer that I came back to try HR here, and so far I’m loving it.

How did your marketing internship last year help you grow?

My marketing internship last summer challenged me to come out of my comfort zone and helped me grow in a couple of ways. It helped me become more outgoing as well as more creative with writing. If you meet me this year, you probably won’t believe that I used to be the shyest person on the planet. I have always liked talking to people and interacting, but I would never approach anyone new. Last summer, I had the opportunity to go around Lansing, Mich., and Mount Pleasant, Mich., doing grassroots marketing where I had to come out of my shell a little bit. I not only had to say more than hello, but I introduced myself and talked to different apartment communities and senior living communities, about TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® and why they should promote TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® to their residents. Along with becoming more outgoing, I was given creative freedom with blogging. When I arrived at TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® they said, “Here are some general topics you can write about and when you complete them, we will post them our blog site.”

What are you hoping to learn or accomplish in your internship this summer?

Although my main goal is to learn more about HR to figure out if that’s what I want to do after obtaining my master’s degree, my first goal and challenge to myself this summer is to be more outgoing and meet more people than I did last year. I want to meet at least one person from every department, not including the interns. I think I got off to a strong start though, I introduced myself to each intern as they came into the meeting room on the first day and I had all of their names memorized five minutes before our supervisor came in to meet us all (and there are 19 interns this summer). As for my main goal, I want to learn about and experience as many aspects of HR as I can, even if they take me out of my comfort zone.

What’s next in your life after your internship?

I just graduated from Michigan State University with a degree in communications and health promotions. After this internship I will be returning to MSU to achieve my master’s in communications.

CorinneWhat has been your favorite thing about TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® so far?

I love the atmosphere and the people. I have been on a team of some sort ever since I was 3 whether it be soccer, basketball, track, golf or rowing. I love being in a team atmosphere and at TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® I really feel like part of a team. Everyone I’ve met is friendly and willing to help each other. I think the core values that TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® instills is a big part of what makes working here such an enjoyable and beneficial experience.

What is your favorite Instagram account?

My favorite Instagram account to follow is @shortandsnarkyrowing. It’s run by a couple of coxswains. I was on the varsity rowing team all four years of my undergrad. The coxswain is the little person that steers the boat (and no, they do not yell “row, row, row” repeatedly, haha!). Anyway, @shortandsnarkyrowing makes a lot of rowing memes that I find very entertaining.

We’re excited to have Corinne on our team. Subscribe to our blog and like us on Facebook for more intern blog series posts!
