Turning a summer job into a long-term career

Nick_1Written by Chelsea Leser

Many movers and drivers come to TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® expecting to make some extra cash during the summer months. While this can work out well for some, others are able to transform their summer jobs into long-term career opportunities. Nick Popoff, a franchise marketing specialist at our Home Office in Lansing, Mich., has done just that, holding five job titles on his way from mover to franchise marketing specialist. We interviewed Nick to learn more about his career, and here is what he had to say!

Nick Popoff

Why did you start working at TWO MEN AND A TRUCK®? What positions have you held?
Nick: I had been teaching in the Lansing area and came on with TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® in the summer of 2013 to make some extra money throughout the summer and I’ve never looked back.

I started as a mover, quickly became a driver, then trainer at the Lansing franchise. From there, I secured a job at the corporate office in the operations department, training and consulting franchise start-ups. Most recently, I have moved into the marketing department as a franchise marketing specialist. It’s been very fun getting to see all aspects of the business, and franchising in general.

What advice do you have to movers and drivers who might think TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® is just a summer job?
Nick: With the way this company is growing, TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® is whatever kind of job you want to make it. The opportunity is almost overwhelming for people who work hard and are passionate about what they do. It could be a summer job and it could be an unbelievable career opportunity, that’s up to the individual.

What’s your favorite part about working at TWO MEN AND A TRUCK®?
Nick: The opportunity, the people, and the travel. I have had the opportunity to travel all around the country, working with a lot of really great people; colleagues, customers, movers, drivers, customer service reps, managers, and franchisees. A lot of really hard-working people, very quietly doing great things.

How has TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® helped you grow?
Nick: Man, where do I start? Biggest thing … they’ve challenged me and supported me. Anything I’ve been willing to work toward, the company has had the confidence in me to take it on. That confidence and support has driven me to take opportunities outside of my “comfort zone”. You really experience a lot of growth when you start operating out of your comfort zone.

What TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® core value do you relate to most?
Nick: “Be Your Best and Have Fun” – I love to be my best and I love to have fun.

That’s a wrap! Career Move Month brings 1,207 new hires to TWO MEN AND A TRUCK®

Written by Chelsea Leser

Recruiting and retention are key elements to business success. Businesses simply cannot accomplish their goals or fight against growing competition without focusing on finding and retaining top talent. It’s often a 24/7 competition! TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® understands that people are the company’s single most valuable asset in our quest to move customers forward, one box at a time.

To help our franchise locations nationwide recruit the staff needed to serve every customer we meet, TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® dedicates one full month to pre-summer hiring. This initiative, called Career Move Month, has just concluded its fourth year, and has brought a record number of new team members – 1,207 to be exact! These new team members bring unique knowledge and experiences, which will set up our franchises to help even more customers during the busy summer moving months.

CMM logoOur TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® franchises across the country received a total of 9,814 applications, a 16 percent growth from Career Move Month 2015! This growth can be attributed to each franchise’s dedication to prepare for the busy moving season earlier this year. Franchises posted positions, participated in awareness and grassroots recruiting, hosted open houses, and more to dial national programs and resources down to the local level.

“I am so proud of the system for stepping up to meet the challenge of recruiting by starting early and supporting Career Move Month initiatives,” said Chief Executive Officer Jeff Wesley.  “We saw tremendous success with 1,207 hires! We’re excited to welcome our new team members and set them up for success, making this summer the best one yet.”

Career Move Month has come to a close, but there are still many positions available for interested job seekers. Many franchises are still looking for dedicated, hard-working individuals to fill frontline, support, and management roles.
